Surrey composer into Semi-finals of International Composition Competition – with highest score for England!
Former Surrey resident, Elizabeth O. S. Chute, has progressed to the Semi-final of the ‘Maurice Ravel’ International Composing Competition as the first placed Instrumentalist for England.
“I’m over the moon to have progressed this far up against such talented professional classical instrumental composers – with the highest score for England. What a fantastic way to start 2018! The fact that this is an International Competition of such a high calibre, judged by renowned international conductors and musicians, makes it all so very special,” Elizabeth said.
Elizabeth’s composition for piano, The Piazza, is leading the England contingency in the All Existing Instruments category, ahead of the finals on 10th February 2018.
With winners to be announced on 29 March 2018, €5050 in prize money will be paid out to top five instrumental compositions. The other two categories in the 3rd edition of this prestigious competition are Live Orchestra and Live Small Group – with total prize money of €12750 and €8750 respectively.
Born in Trinidad and Tobago, the youngest of six from a musical family, Elizabeth has been composing and writing lyrics since 2014 – from her current home in Italy. Early success came with two Semi-Finalist Awards in the 2015 UK Song Writing Contest – in the Instrumental and Lyrics only categories.
In 2016, Elizabeth débuted on the Women of Substance Award-winning Radio and Podcast (USA), featuring in the Top 20 listing, thanks to fan votes. She also scooped another two Semi-Final awards in the 2016 UK Song Writing Contest and featured on UK-based Radio WigWam as a BANDWagon Artist.
In 2017, Elizabeth’s music aired on more international internet stations and shows including The Pat Stone Variety Show (USA) and KB Radio (Canada). She also featured on Listening to Ladies (UK), a video episode of The Art Archaeologist Show (USA), and in an interview on Your Music Radio (The Netherlands).
In addition to composing music, Elizabeth is a keen supporter of indie musicians, whom she interviews on her blog.
