When were you first introduced to music?
We always had music on in the house when I was growing up, and my parents were both in a covers band, so I used to spend evenings listening to them practise and sometimes got to go to their gigs too. I remember being enthralled with it all and just wanting to be the one with the mic!
Tell me about your favourite music teachers
My vocal coach, Dorothy, is amazing. She was a Covent Garden opera singer in her day and now, approaching 80, she’s no less sprightly – what she doesn’t know about the voice isn’t worth knowing.
What are your fondest musical memories?
When I turned 16 my Dad paid for me to go to a recording studio and record a few songs I’d written on my acoustic guitar. It was such a wonderful day, his band all helped out with the other instruments and it was just magical. I still have an old cassette with the recordings on it.
What is your favourite TV theme tune and film soundtrack?
Thundercats!! I used to love the cartoon when I was little the theme tune still makes me smile now!
What was the last download/ CD you bought?
I just bought the new Halestorm album, it’s AMAZING!
You have been given a voucher for £250.00 to spend on equipment, downloads, vinyls, CDs, DVDs or concert tickets. How will you spend it?
I’d spend half of it on equipment as I always need new toys, and the rest on gig tickets coz there no better way of enjoying yourself!
How do you balance your music with other obligations?
It’s tough I’m not gonna lie, a lot of people don’t understand the amount of time and effort launching (and maintaining!) a music career takes. I went self-employed about 4 years ago and now take work contracts for half of the year to pay the bills and balance that with my music the rest of the time.
Happiness is … Being on stage, singing my heart out and connecting with the audience.
