When were you first introduced to music?
When I was a child my parents listened to classical music Bach, Mozart and Swedish songs by Bellman, and sang quite a lot at home. Later on I learned to play a little on the upright piano in our home.
Tell me about your favourite teachers.
One of them was my teacher at school who made us listen to the Beatles. Listening to Abbey Road and especially “Here comes the Sun” was pure magic which made me want to play guitar… my piano teacher from the conservatory of music was a great inspiration – serious but with a lot of humor 🙂
What are your fondest musical memories?
Learning “Here comes the sun” from the record at 13, when I learned about the existence of at capo for the acoustic guitar. Playing guitars and learning to sing harmonies with a classmate; but I have so many fantastic memories about playing music with good friends/great musicians over the years.
What is your favourite TV theme tune and film soundtrack?
I guess the Amadeus film is a favourite. It’s beautiful and filled with great music.
What was the last music download/ CD/vinyl that you bought?
I bought an LP (vinyl) from a singer/songwriter colleague recently, and I bought a lot of Frank Sinatra records in order to play some of the songs he sang with a big band.
Imagine you have been given £250 (GBP) to spend on anything music-related. How will you spend it?
I can always think of some guitar-related gear to buy – or a good microphone also using much more than £250 😉
How do you balance music with your other obligations?
I am a musician, and I spend most of my time working with music. I’m teaching a little and I work as a sideman for other artists, but composing and spending time in my studio is a lot of what I’m doing.
Happiness is ... Being with my family, a walk in beautiful nature, traveling to Italy, grooving with great musicians and touring with them, bending strings on my Gibson es 336, singing in harmony, strumming my Martin D28 with new strings and feeling lucky when a good musical idea jumps out of it…
